during a facelift.
The other ends of the threads are then anchored to firm
tissue behind the ear or in the scalp, lifting and holding
the soft tissue in the corrected position. Excess skin is
removed through a fine incision along the ear.
‘Only the excess skin is undermined and removed,’
explains Dr Szalay. ‘This is a significant advance in terms of
safety. Because much less skin is undermined with the Lift-

healing than with a standard facelift.’
options now available to patients, it is possible
to put off having a facelift for many years – and
perhaps altogether. Sagging skin on the face and neck is
one of the most noticeable signs of ageing. Having treated
patients with traditional facelifts, Brisbane and Sydney
cosmetic doctor Dr Michael Szalay created the Lift-Plus
procedure as a minimally invasive alternative without
compromising results.
The procedure involves the use of multiple, fine,
biocompatible threads to lift and support sagging skin on
the face and neck. The threads are looped, by way of small
Case study 1 - The Lift-Plus
Dr Szalay performed the Lift-Plus on this 64-year-old
woman. He explains, ‘The skin on a person’s neck can
be a very ageing feature. This case study shows how
well the Lift-Plus can combine with other procedures
such as liposuction to enhance this area. As can be
seen by looking at the patient’s face on profile, she
had an excess of fat around her neck combined with
loose tissue. In order to achieve a significant
improvement, it was necessary to de-bulk this area
through liposuction as well as to tighten the area with
the Lift-Plus procedure.
‘The Lift-Plus uses multiple fine threads to lift back
and support the tissue. Because of the excess of skin,
it is necessary to make an incision along the front of
the patient’s ear so this skin can be removed. This
typically leaves a fine line along the front of the ear,
which in most cases is barely perceptible. This results
in a significant improvement in the patient’s profile.’

Case study 2 - The Lift-Plus
Dr Szalay performed the Lift-Plus on the jowls and neck of this 74-year-old female. Prior to the procedure the patient had significant laxity
of the lower face and neck. ‘This patient was hoping to attain significant improvement in her lower face and neck without undergoing a full
facelift, so the Lift-Plus procedure was ideal for her,’ says Dr Szalay. ‘As you can see in the photos, there is dramatically less lose skin on the
face and neck.’
The Lift-Plus procedure requires about 10 to 14 days recovery time – considerably less time than a full facelift.
