The daughter and granddaughter of legendary beauties, 23-year-old Elettra Rossellini Weidermann is following in her mother Isabella Rossellini's footsteps as spokesmodel for Lancôme.
There must be something truly wonderful about the French cosmetic brand Lancôme. It has attracted many very credible celebrities to lend their names and faces as spokespersons, such as actors Kate Winslet and Clive Owen, who is the face of the new men's skincare range. Perhaps none has been as memorable, though, as the legendary style icon and elusive beauty, Isabella Rossellini. The daughter of Swedish-born three-time Academy Award-winning film star Ingrid Bergman and Italian director Roberto Rossellini, who were true royalty as far as the world of film is concerned, Isabella not only became the face and spokesperson for Lancôme, but she held that position for 14 years - an extraordinarily long tenure in the cosmetics world. She started the role in 1982. People still wonder how Lancôme managed to entice her, as she has certainly never been a very public person.
What is even more amazing is that, 25 years after her mother started with Lancôme, Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann, Isabella's daughter, worked on her first advertising campaign for Lancôme. Elettra, born in 1983 and raised in New York, is a student in politics, history and economics at a Manhattan university.
Just like her mother she fell into modelling when she was 15 after a family friend suggested that she give it a try. Since then she has done catwalk work for the likes of Diane von Furstenberg, Bill Blass and Alberta Ferretti. She has also done ad campaigns for Salvatore Ferragamo, Bill Blass, Abercrombie & Fitch and Catherine Malandrino - all while studying for a triple major degree!
When Elettra was a child her mother often took her along to her photo shoots. She says that when she told her mother she would be working for Lancôme, Isabella said, ‘I couldn't be happier for you, had you just told me that you were having a child or getting married'.
Elettra feels the brand has evolved, that product choices are much broader now and that they do excellent skincare. Healthy skin is very important in fashion, she says.
After completing her first ad campaign for Lancôme, Elettra flew to Africa to volunteer at a centre for elephant conservation. This passion and open-mindedness come through in her appearance, which conveys a vivacious intelligence.
Elettra also speaks fluent French as well as English, which, with her cosmopolitan genetic heritage, makes her a perfect choice for the internationally renowned French company. She says what she loves the most about her role as a spokesmodel is the opportunity to travel, see different cities and learn about other cultures.
