Sinister forces have us under their spell in 2010. From Twilight to True Blood, sultry vampires are seducing our style as we get made up in their image.
Intense, haunting beauty with perfect porcelain skin, diamond eyes and blood-red mouths are the must-have makeup looks of this season. Thanks to the vampire craze emanating from our television sets, movie theatres and book stores, we are running to beauty counters to obtain the supernatural look. Figures released by some of the biggest retailers of cosmetic products already indicate that women's preferences in terms of makeup have changed - particularly with pale foundation sales going through the roof. So how does this look translate? The trick is to look both innocent and provocative at the same time. Banish the yearnings for a healthy, glowing tan (whether natural or fake) - the look we are now striving to achieve is pale and interesting. Strong, vivid colors are no longer desired and pale skin, smoky eyes and blood-red lips are in. The dark lush hair of Bella Swan doesn't hurt in completing the look either. Moon faceSkin is a major key in achieving immortalesque beauty. Use the moon as an inspiration for getting a flawless, diamondy complexion illuminating your face. Start with a light reflecting or shimmer face primer. Dot concealer over any uneven tone or blemishes and apply foundation a subtle shade lighter than your skin. Seal this with a light dusting of iridescent loose powder and forgo the blush and bronzer. Ethereal looksWe're looking for eyes that speak volumes here, evoking the allure of a dark and sexy siren. Look for shadows that play tricks with the light, such as metallic blue or green. Shimmer is an attention-grabber that gives the illusion of movement. Add extra sparkle by dragging a thin line of the same shadow under your lower lashes. The classic smoky eye also works well with this look. Select a luminous grey shadow and line the eye with a kohl liner for an intense stare. Blur the edges for a smoky feel and finish with lashings of black mascara. Blood red lipsOnce bitten, twice shy! Don't be scared of breaking out the red lippy for a plump, juicy vampire pout. Without being too grotesque, we're looking to recreate the look of blood on your lips. Opt for a blood-colour lip stain to mimic a natural flushed effect and cover it with deep red gloss for a delicious pout. Sexy hairWe want disheveled waves that appear as if you've been running through the forest, but not wild and unkempt. Use a styling cream to prep damp hair and then blowdry. Curl sections using an iron or large hot roller, alternating between curling them in and under and flipping them out. Brush your finger through the results to muss it up a little. The curls are soft and romantic but still slightly undone, which is sexy and mysterious. The new blackDark nails are a hot trend right now but they are particularly at home with the occult craze. Opt for saturated onyx, deep plum or an inky lush sapphire. The best thing about this look is that if you get a few chips it enhances the daring of the look. Bella Beauty Magazine #19
