You may have noticed the much loved children's television show Hi-5 has undergone a transformation. In 2009 new cast members Lauren Brant, Fely Irvine and Tim Maddren joined Casey Burgess and Stevie Nicholson in the next generation of the highly acclaimed pre-school production. The new look and feel Hi-5 is sure to delight its young audience while still retaining all the magic and elements that has made the Hi-5 brand loved throughout the world for the last decade.
The new cast members are vibrant, talented young singers, dancers and actors whose warmth and energy is engaging. Lauren, Casey and Fely all began performing from a young age. Says Lauren "Since I can remember I have been singing, dancing, acting and modelling. The entertainment and arts industry is my passion". Growing up in a family of performers Casey began her career in the hit musical ‘Annie', which lead to a hosting role on Girl TV. She later began writing her own songs and playing guitar for a band before being chosen as one of the new members of the Hi-5 team. After graduating high school Fely received a part in the stage production of Miss Saigon, touring Australia for 14 months before moving to New York to study acting. On her return she auditioned for Hi-5 and has never looked back. "I love performing for children, not just in Australia but all over the world. They are so honest and their bubbly energy is infectious". I had the privilege of meeting these beautiful, talented young women and sat down and chatted about their exciting career and all things beauty!
Lauren: "Nothing is more rewarding than the honesty that comes from children. I adore the fact that children trust and love me before I have even met them and when we do meet, they give me the biggest smiles and hugs that just melt my heart". Between a hectic schedule of touring, filming and public appearances what do you enjoy doing in your down time? Lauren: "I like to catch up with family and hang out with my friends. I miss them all so much when I am away. In my own time nothing beats relaxing in the serenity of nature whether it's by the water at a beach, cliff or lake or in the middle of a lush rainforest. Add some music, a camera and a sketch pad and I'm in bliss".
Lauren: "I cleanse, tone and moisturise every morning and night. Once a week I exfoliate and use a hydrating mask". What is your all time favourite makeup look? Lauren: I think a girl is most beautiful when she is natural. I favour a natural, soft, clean look. I also love the classic 50's dramatic lashes and red lip too". How do you keep yourself in shape and looking beautiful? Lauren: "I drink lots of water; eat lots of fresh fruit and vegies and do some form of exercise everyday. I make sure that I enjoy doing all of this so that it doesn't feel like a chore. Make it fun with music, friends and yummy recipes".
Lauren: "Yes and no. I think the appearance of a person does tell you a lot about them". As a celebrity do you feel any added pressure to ensure you're always looking your very best - even if ducking down to the local shops for a carton of milk? Lauren: "I don't feel any pressure towards my appearance. I enjoy dressing up and feeling amazing for special occasions but on a day-to-day basis I like to stay natural. As long as I am comfortable at all times I'm happy". Your Best Beauty tip or advice? Lauren: "Always take your makeup off before bed no matter what! Don't wear too much makeup and spend the time to blend your products well". What I really loved about creating Lauren, Casey and Fely's makeup look at our shoot was the fact that each girl has their distinct, individual look and different colouring. Lauren with her striking auburn hair and divine peaches and cream complexion, Casey with honey blonde hair and amazing, big blue eyes and Fely with her cascading dark locks and beautiful olive complexion. All of these factors, hair, skin and eye colour need to be taken into consideration when creating the perfect look for you. Here are some of my tips and tricks of the trade. The key in choosing the best makeup colours is that you need to take your skin tone, hair and eye colour into consideration. Does your skin have ‘warm' or ‘cool' undertones? Majority of women have ‘warm' undertones whilst a very small number of women have truly ‘cool' undertones. Yellow is the one colour we all have in our skin from the very lightest complexion to the darkest. Almost everyone looks better with some yellow in their foundation. It makes the skin look alive and most natural. Are you a porcelain or fair skinned beauty, golden and sun kissed, olive toned or an ebony beauty? If you're fair skinned always use a sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun as fair skin burns easily. Light, sheer coverage foundations look most natural on fair skins. On eyes cool tones work best. For blush go for pretty pastels such as peach, apricots or pale pink and avoid using blush that is too brown or tan bronzers which can make fair skin look dirty. Lips look pretty in pastel shades. If you're a sun kissed blonde or brunette warm golden tones and soft bronzes look great on you. Those with olive complexions suit warmer colours on eyes such as gold, peaches and olive greens to deep purple, plums and rich golds and browns. For a natural look on cheeks apricot and peach pinks are the best. Bronzers also work well on you. Lips are flattered in shades of coral and peachy pinks for those with a light olive complexion to deeper shades of berry plum and brown for darker olive complexions. If you're an ebony beauty try shades of bronze, emerald green, sapphire, plum and burnt orange on eyes. If your skin is a paler caramel tone olive greens, light plum, toffees and warm gold will suit best. On cheeks, those with a cooler skin tone will suit deep shades of plum and rose. For warm toned skin apricot and bronzers look beautiful. Lips are flattered in shades of berry, rose, coffee, terracotta and dark apricot. Finally, makeup should be used to enhance ones natural beauty, and make you not only look beautiful, but feel beautiful wearing it. See Hi-5 in their new series, weekdays at 3:30pm on Channel 9.
